Welcome to Hekate Conscious Ageing Foundation (HCAF)!

HCAF is working towards a society that provides all the necessary structures, measures and support individuals need in order to achieve active, independent, fulfilling, healthy and autonomous ageing, and later on dignified dying and death.

Population ageing is a phenomenon that affects almost every developed country in the world, with both the number and proportion of older people growing across the globe. This transformation is likely to have a considerable impact on most aspects of society and the economy, including housing, healthcare and social protection, labour markets, the demand for goods and services, macroeconomic and fiscal sustainability, family structures and intergenerational ties.

During the next three decades, the number of older people in the European Union (EU) is projected to follow an upward path, peaking at 149.2 million inhabitants in 2050; their relative share of the total population will also gradually increase and is projected to reach 28.5 % in 2050.

In Greek mythology, Hecate is the three-faced Goddess of the crossroads. She can see where one is coming from, and where the paths at the crossroad might take. Her three-way perspective allows her to see the connection between past, present, and future. She is the goddess at the threshold of major transitions, Hekate’s time is twilight, the threshold zone between day and night, between young and old age. Hekate is present as midwife assisting at births, at inner re-births and as death midwife who helps ease the passage of the soul as it leaves the body at death.

Hekate teaches us that we can acquire wisdom through our own life experiences, from birth through midlife and old age until our death.

Although many of our activities are online and available anywhere, HCAF is officially operating in the Netherlands and the UK, but also active in Malta and Hungary.
